Woodworking Glossary

Biscuit Joiner

A woodworking tool used to join two pieces of wood together. It cuts a crescent-shaped hole in opposite pieces of wood, which are then connected using a small, oval-shaped piece of compressed wood called a biscuit.

Miter Saw

A saw used to make crosscuts and miter cuts in a workpiece. It is commonly used for cutting molding and trim to precise angles.

Thickness Planer

A woodworking machine that planes wood to a consistent thickness throughout its length and to smooth the surface of a board.

Lathe

A machine that rotates a workpiece about an axis of rotation to perform various operations such as cutting, sanding, knurling, drilling, or deformation with tools applied to the workpiece.

CNC Router

A computer-controlled cutting machine related to the hand-held router used for cutting various hard materials, such as wood, composites, aluminum, steel, plastics, and foams.

Dust Collection System

A system used in woodworking shops to remove sawdust and chips from the air, improving air quality and reducing fire hazards.
